Proposed Itinerary: Summer Tours 2009



Thursday: St Lucia Wetlands
Fly to the sub-tropical port of Richard’s -Bay, gateway to the St Lucia Wetlands. Land Transfer to St-Lucia village, a lovely quaint sea-side town surrounded by National Park, where warthog and hippo occasionally share the streets with the locals.

Travel to the nearby Hluhluwe/Umfolozi National Park, South Africa’s oldest game reserve, and home to almost half the world’s surviving rhino population, and enjoy an afternoon of game-viewing in the park. Accommodation in a lovely 4 star guesthouse on the edge of the St Lucia Wetlands national park, with spacious lawns, sparkling swimming pool, and the sound of the sea in the distance.

Friday: Cape Vidal
Drive through Cape-Vidal National Park along the coast to Mission Rocks and Cape-Vidal, an unspoilt tropical beach, where you can relax and try snorkeling along the reefs. In the afternoon, enjoy an exciting water safari on the St Lucia Estuary, searching for hippo, crocodile, and the abundant birdlife of the area. Return to the village and prepare for Shabbos.

Saturday: St Lucia Wetlands
Enjoy a relaxing Shabbos in St-Lucia village at your guesthouse on the edge of the Wetlands. On Shabbos Afternoon, enjoy a scenic walk along the banks of the estuary to the Sea, hoping to spot hippo and/or crocodile and other wildlife along the way.

Sunday: Blyde River Canyon
Take an Early morning flight back to Johannesburg. Depart for your land journey through the highlands of Gauteng and Mpumalanga provinces to the great Drakensberg Escarpment, where the plateau comes to a dramatic end and drops 4000 feet to the Lowveld below. En route, visit the lovely Elands-River waterfall , the magnificent Sudwala-Caves, the mysterious Bourkes-Luck Potholes and see the spectacular views over the Blyde River Canyon area from G-d’s Window and the three rondawels, over the Blyde-River Canyon. Overnight in a lovely resort at the top of the Canyon.

Monday: Kruger National Park
Travel down the escarpment to the lowveld. Spend the afternoon and early evening on safari in the world-famous Kruger National Park, searching for zebra, impala, giraffe, kudu, warthog, hyena, cheetah, wild dog, other exotic species, and of course, the Big 5 : rhino, elephant, buffalo, lion, and leopard.

Tuesday: Kruger National Park
Rise early for an early morning safari in the park, the best time for spotting the elusive lion and other large cats. After a lovely barbecue lunch in the park, travel to a private game reserve, where you can expect some close-up off-road encounters with some of the animals you have not yet seen and some of those you have already seen.

Wednesday: Private Game Reserve
Enjoy an early morning safari in the private game reserve, hoping for some more close encounters. Travel to the airport and fly to Cape-Town, South Africa’s legislative capital and one of the world’s most beautiful cities. Late afternoon tour of the city.

Thursday: Cape Town
Take the cable-car up the world-famous Table Mountain, the over 3000 foot plateau that towers over the city. Enjoy some of the best views you can imagine of the surrounding beaches, forests, mountains, and urban areas.

In the early afternoon, take a cruise out to Robben-Island and enjoy a fascinating tour of the prison complex where Nelson Mandela spent much of his life.

Friday: Cape Town
Rise early and enjoy a scenic drive around the Cape Peninsula to Cape Point, the meeting place of two oceans, and the famous Cape of Good Hope. Visit the Penguin colony and take a boat cruise out to Seal-Island. Return on time to prepare for Shabbos.

Saturday: Cape Town
Enjoy a lovely Shabbos with the friendly Jewish Communities of Cape Town. In the afternoon, take a relaxed stroll along the beachfront.

Sunday Victoria Falls
Early morning flight to Johannesburg and on to Livingstone, Zambia, gateway to the Victoria Falls.

Enjoy a tour of the world’s largest curtain of falling water, the 1.8 metre wide Zambezi River, plunging over the world’s greatest waterfalls, amidst a spectacle of mist, and rainbows. Cross the border by evening into Botswana and check into our lovely 4 star game-lodge on the banks of the game-rich Chobe-River, home to the greatest concentration of elephant in the world.

Monday: Chobe

Enjoy a lovely morning boat cruise on the Chobe-River, searching for hippo crocodile, buffalo, and other animals, and hoping for some rare viewings of elephant swimming.

Midday at leisure at the lodge.

In the late afternoon, enjoy the Chobe National Park by jeep, hoping to get up close to Chobe’s huge elephant herds. Enjoy a lovely sunset on the banks of the river.

Tuesday: Chobe
Rise early for an open-jeep safari on the banks of the Chobe-River, hoping to spot some of Chobe’s elusive predators. Return to the lodge to daven and for a late brunch.

Cross the river by boat into Namibia for a tour of an authentic Namibian village.

In the late afternoon, enjoy a magnificent sunset cruise on the river, hoping for sightings of large animal herds and the best sunset you can imagine.

Wednesday: Chobe
Cross the border into Zimbabwe and enjoy the magnificent views of the Victoria-Falls on the other side. Afternoon flight back to Johannesburg, where the tours ends with some fantastic memories.

    Meals: high standard kosher breakfasts and dinners daily (4 star level), under top South African hashgacha. At most venues, our own dedicated pastry chef will prepare fresh bread and pastries on site. Dinners will generally be freshly prepared on site, and can include traditional South African barbecues with a variety of sumptuous meats and side dishes, sushi by our phenomenal sushi chef, and a selection of starters, soups, and deserts. On some days, light lunches will be served on site. On other days where we are on the move, a sandwich station will be setup at breakfast for guests to prepare their own lunch.

  • Visas (responsibility of guests to obtain updated information regarding requirements, which change from time to time.)

    NOTES:
    i)50% non-refundable deposit and signed contract/indemnity required to secure booking.
    ii)If deposit is paid by 10 December 2008, a $500 discount will be given, provided exchange rates remains at R10 or more to the dollar.
    iii)The cost of the tour is subject to a minimum exchange rate of R10 to the dollar . Any strengthening in the Rand beyond that level will entail a proportional rise in the dollar cost of the tour on all outstanding amounts.
    iv)If the situation in Zimbabwe does not allow for a visit to the Zimbabwean falls, we will substitute with another game drive or another visit to the Zambian Falls.)
